Scarf Embraces Healthy Working Lives

General

Scarf has enrolled in the Healthy Working Lives programme from the NHS.

We have made a really positive start to our bronze award programme.

Our working group set our campaign and activity schedule which started off with hand hygiene and mental health.

An NHS nurse visited the office to give a handwashing demonstration at our all-staff meeting which was a real eye-opener for most of the staff!

We now have instructional posters in the toilets and kitchens to make sure staff keep up the good work.

As part of our mental health campaign we invited Breathing Space and Living Life to the office for a staff drop-in session as well as making a wealth of information available to all staff through our intranet portal and printed materials around the office.

A couple of members of staff undertook the Mental Health First Aid training and with it, as well as ongoing engagement with See Me’s workplace programme – we are well on the way to establishing an in-house support function for staff experiencing mental health issues.

Coming up, we have designed a his and hers quiz in which we will ask people questions relating to health matters specific to the opposite gender, which will highlight some serious issues with a little humour.

We have already displayed posters directing people to the Men’s Health Forum’s health guides for men and women.

We have improved our smoking policy and welcomed an NHS smoking cessation advisor to the office to talk to all staff before arranging ongoing support sessions for some of our smokers who are looking to quit.

Chris Scott, Communications and Development Executive at Scarf, said:

“Importantly, the programme is making an impact and staff are really engaging with the activities and campaigns.

“It is creating a buzz around the office and raising awareness, making Scarf a healthier workplace.”
